This morning, during my devotional time, the Lord opened my eyes to something powerful. As I read Matthew 6:21, I found myself cross-referencing Luke 12:21 and Luke 12:25. While these scriptures often address money and possessions, the Holy Spirit gave me a deeper revelation: Worrying doesn’t solve the problem—it clouds our vision and blocks God’s peace.
How many times have we stayed up late worrying about a problem—or worse, worrying about a potential problem that might not even exist? That worry doesn’t just weigh us down; it robs us of the wisdom and peace God wants to give us.
The Truth About Worry: It's a Thief
Worrying about our problems doesn’t help us in any way. In fact, it does the opposite. It steals from us.
It steals our clarity. We can spend so much time and mental energy focusing on fear or anxiety that we can’t see the problem for what it really is. Instead of thinking clearly, we spiral into confusion which usually ends up in ungodly decision-making.
It steals our peace. Worrying doesn't just cause frustration, it causes physical stress, fatigue, and mood highs and lows. God doesn't want this for us as it disrupts how our minds and bodies were created to function—in harmony with God's Spirit. God’s Word promises peace, but we trade it for stress when we try to handle everything on our own.
It steals our trust in God. Have you ever told someone you trust them but then you double-check and second-guess everything they do or say? Where's the trust? Worry does the same thing in our relationship with the Lord. It causes us to second guess everything about Him and what He can do. When we worry, we unintentionally tell God, “I don’t think You’ve got this.” Now, I know that's a tough truth, but it’s real, Sister.
The Root of Our Worry is Fear and Lies
For many of us, worry isn’t just about the problems we have. Our battle with worry is also about the problems we sense we have. And the enemy is an expert at planting lies in our minds:
“What if they don’t like me?”
“What if I’m not good enough?”
“What if everything falls apart?”
These thoughts are not from God.
Let me remind you of that again...these types of thoughts do not come from the Father God. They’re fear-based lies with one purpose and that's to distract us from God’s truth. Instead of running to God with these concerns, we often let them fester, which creates a cycle of worry that ultimately leads nowhere.
Stop Worrying and Start Trusting
Whenever I feel myself worrying about a problem or situation in my life, I remember how vital it is for me to trust God with ALL of my problems—real or imagined. I don't want you to go down a dark path of uncontrollable thoughts and fearful living because you haven't learned how to identify what's troubling you and take the right steps towards freedom from it. So, let's do this together:
1. Call Out the Lie
When your mind begins to worry, stop and ask yourself, What am I believing right now? Is it true, or is it a lie from the enemy? Compare it to God’s Word. For example:
Lie: “This situation will never get better.”
Truth: “With God, all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
Remember, God's truth always trumps lies.
2. Give the Problem to God
Take your worries to the Lord in prayer. That's more than just a hymn; it's a form of worship and an act of bravery. Be honest about how you’re feeling and ask God for the courage to face the issue with His wisdom. 1 Peter 5:7 says for us to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us.
3. Choose Action Over Anxiety
Worry will paralyze us mentally and spiritually, if we let it. But having faith in the One who can help us conquer those mountains will move us forward in life. Instead of sitting and sulking in fear, get up and take that one small step of faith. Have that tough conversation, seek the wise counsel you've been hoping will help you, or simply wait patiently and trust God to guide your steps.
God's Peace Is Greater Than Your Worry
God didn’t create you to carry the weight of worry. Contrary to what society may try to tell us, you cannot overcome anything on your own strength or intelligence. You need the power of Jesus Christ. He’s your Provider, your Protector, and your Peace. Whatever you’re facing, He has a solution that brings clarity, calm, and glory to His name. Releasing your worry and relying on God’s wisdom not only solves the problem but it causes you to live in His divine peace. And that peace surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Make it a daily habit to read God’s Word, pray to Him, and seek His guidance for handling your worry and making the right decisions. Lean into His Spirit to make a way for you, remembering that in everything He does, He always works things out for your good and for His glory (Romans 8:28).
Praying you will
choose peace over worry,
